Picnic Lunch Tips for Your Next Boating Excursion

If you’re getting ready to head out for a day of fun in the sun, make sure to pack a picnic lunch! Being out on and in the water always makes appetites soar, so follow our picnic tips below for a great and satisfying picnic lunch in your new or used boat from Ron Hoover!

Pack the Proteins

One picnic lunch go-to my family loves are deli subs from the grocery store. They’re loaded with meat and cheese, and picky eaters can easily peel off the sandwich stuffings they don’t like. String cheese sticks are popular snacks for the kids (and the kids-at-heart).

Picnic Tips

Carb Up

While a carb binge isn’t exactly the best use of anyone’s diet, having some carbs within easy reach can keep your energy boosted. Potato salad or a cold pasta salad make a great side dish, oatmeal cookies a tasty dessert treat, and granola bars and fruit & grain bars make good snacks to grab.

Picnic Tips

Cool & Refreshing

Nothing beats ice-cold watermelon on a hot day in the sun! Pre-cut and cube a watermelon, stick it in a food storage container and in the fridge the night before you go. Transfer to your cooler and keep it on ice until ready to eat.

Picnic Tips

Stay Hydrated

Water, water, water. It’s essential to stay hydrated. You might think of soft (and hard) drinks as picnic day essentials, but they can also dehydrate you in a hurry – and alcoholic beverages can impair your driving ability. For our family’s outings, we reach for bottled lemonades and iced tea.
