Boat Maintenance Tips to Keep Your Boat in Perfect Condition

Are you needing boat service or parts? You’ve come to the right place – places, to be exact! Ron Hoover RV & Marine Centers gives you eight different marine service centers, so you can pick the location that’s closest to you in location and convenience. We know that in the middle of boating season it can be easy to lose track of your new or used boat’s routine service needs, so check out a few of our recommended boat maintenance tips below!

Boat Service

Regular Checks

Different parts get different checks! Schedule routine marine maintenance for the following at these frequencies:

  • Oil check: every 3 months/90 days
  • Fuel lines: every 3 months/90 days
  • Battery: at the beginning of each season
  • Engine check: at least once a year

The best way to make sure these boat maintenance tasks get completed is to have them completed professionally. Unless you just really enjoy digging into the inner workings (and if you do, that’s great!), our professional boat service department can handle it quickly and efficiently.

At Home/DIY Care

Believe it or not, simply keeping your boat clean is the best way to spot any early signs of damage. The fiberglass gel coat of a boat needs to be washed and waxed regularly to prevent oxidization. If the bilge develops a dirty build up, it can mask early signs of leaking fuel or other fluids. In between uses, keep your boat covered to prevent build up of dirt, mold, and mildew on upholstery/canvas.

Other easy checks you can do at home are checking the water pump regularly to make sure there’s a strong discharge and checking the hull and prop for visible damage. Know which joins and connections need to be secure and which ones require regular lubrication. And keep an eye on your trailer, too. Damage prevented or corrected early is always less expensive than more extensive damage, so the best way to prevent damage is to just truly be keeping an eye out for it.
