5 Fall Boating Tips to Keep in Mind

One of the best parts of living in Texas is mild fall and winters. The boating season simply lasts longer here, and we’re not mad about it. Still, the changing of the season can be a good indicator and reminder to take care of certain tasks for your new or used boat that may easily be forgotten. Take a look at some of our fall boating tips below!

Fall Boating Tips

Fuel Up Before Heading Out

Some fuel docks may close early as summer winds down as there are fewer boats out on the water. Fuel up before heading out and make sure you have access to fuel docks that are still open before heading home for the day.

Fall Boating Tips

Check Your VHF

With reduced traffic on waterways in the fall, you’ll want to make sure you have a way of radioing for assistance if needed. Make sure your VHF radio is working and you’ll be good to go – even in spots where you have no cell signal.

Navigation Lights & Flares

Did you know emergency flares have expiration dates? Don’t head out in the fall – when daylight is decreasing anyway – without multiple forms of extra backup light. Check your flares to make sure they’re not expired, that your navigation lights are working properly, and keep waterproof flashlights with plenty of extra batteries in your boat storage compartments.

Keep an Eye on the Weather

Autumn weather can be a bit more unpredictable than during other seasons, and a day out on the water requires some extra awareness. One free boating app we recommend is Sea Tow, which provides accurate and up to date navigation and tide info, as well as current and impending weather conditions.

Boat Service

One of the best ways to ensure having a safe and fun fall boating excursion is to make sure your boat is up to date with its service checks. We can get you in for a boat service appointment – which translates to peace of mind. Contact us today!
