3 On-the-Go Meals for a Full Day Out on the Water

Nothing makes you appreciate a filling meal like spending a day out on the water and having nothing but granola bars and beef jerky handy! Don’t get us wrong, we love granola bars and beef jerky as much as the next guy, but having some easy grab-and-go meals for a day of boating will keep your energy up – and the amount of fun you’re having! Here are some on-the-go meal ideas for boaters you should try!

On-the-Go Meals

For Early Risers

Are you hitting the water early? Bring mini quiches you’ve made the night before!

On-the-Go Meals

In a bowl, whisk together:

  • 8 eggs
  • 2/3 cup shredded cheese of your choice
  • 2/3 cup fully cooked diced ham
  • 1/4 cup sour cream

Spoon the mixture evenly into a lightly greased muffin tin. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. Makes 4 mini quiches. A great source of protein! If you like your quiche with crust, cut rounds of prepared storebought pie crust in circles and push one round into each muffin tin before filling.

For Lunch Time

Nothing beats a hearty sandwich – unless your bread has gotten soggy from touching the fillings for too long. We recommend either switching the bread out for a tortilla and preparing it like a burrito, or giving both pieces of bread a thick layer of lettuce to block moisture from meats, cheeses, or spreads. One of our favorites is a club sandwich with ham, turkey, and bacon, layered with cheese, lettuce, and tomato. Yum!

Afternoon Carb-Loading

By the time mid afternoon rolls around, you might be feeling a little hungry, so give yourself a boost of carbs with our favorite pasta salad! It’s easy to make the night before and store in a food storage container with a tight lid.

On-the-Go Meals

Mix together:

  • 16 oz prepared pasta, cooked and drained
  • ½ cup sliced olives
  • ½ cup diced tomato
  • ¼ cup diced bell pepper or onion (we like to use both!)
  • ½ cup chopped broccoli
  • ½ cup crumbled feta cheese
  • ½ cup diced pepperoni or salami
  • ½ cup Italian dressing

Combine well, and stir to toss dressing over mixture. Enjoy!

Each of these items can be prepared the night before and stored in an ice chest to keep on deck with you. And remember, as important as having good on-the-go meals on the boat are, it’s even more essential to stay well hydrated. Don’t skimp on your water intake!
